Prone to ingrown hairs?

Helpful tips and tricks for the best wax and smoothest skin

Experiencing ingrown hairs?

Keep in mind that it may take up to 3-4 consistent waxing sessions before you start seeing results, especially if you where shaving before! Your hair grows in 3 stages, so until you get everything on the same cycle with consistent waxing, it is normal to still experience ingrown hairs if your where susceptible to them before. Shaving can cause more ingrown hairs by blunting the hair at skin level. By blunting the hair, not only are you giving it a larger surface area, but the hair may feel scratchy once it starts to grow in and have an easier chance of getting ingrown. When you wax, you are completely removing the hair down to the root. Naturally, hair grows in at a fine point allowing it to grow back in much softer, finer and easier!
Seeing your esthetician every 4-6 weeks can greatly reduce the amount of ingrown hairs you get, if not completely eliminate them, but keep in mind that there are important at home home steps you need to take to maximize your results.

Exfoliate, exfoliate exfoliate! If you don’t regularly exfoliate, hair can easily get trapped under the dead skin and cause an ingrown hair!

Important at home care to reduce ingrown hairs

Your hair should be at least 1/4″ in length

It can be tempting to remove any hair as soon as it starts to grow in, but when you wax hair is shorter than 1/4 of an inch, the wax doesn’t have enough to grab onto, which can cause hairs to break off instead of being pulled out by the roots. Allow for at least 1/4″ of regrowth before you wax again.

Keep the area clean!
For the next 24-48 hours following your wax, your pores will be open, making them more susceptible to infection. Don’t work out, swim in an ocean or pool, take a hot shower or do anything that may cause you to sweat excessively. If you do, make sure to cleanse the area as soon as you can. You may also want to apply an ingrown hair treatment immediately after to prevent and heal bumps.

Get rid of dead skin!
Exfoliate, exfoliate exfoliate! If you don’t regularly exfoliate, hair can easily get trapped under the dead skin and cause an ingrown hair! Exfoliating 3-4 days a week with an exfoliating glove or recommended product from your esthetician can work wonders!

Stay regular!
Remember to stay regular with your waxing sessions. You’ll want to schedule your maintenance sessions every 4-6 weeks for optimal results!
